The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - September 2-4, 2000

I'm starting this race report a little early this time... some news to
report.

First, The Good: I'm buying a new bike! No, not that new, and no, it's not
for the track. The new bike: 1989 Honda CB-1, with 18K miles, in pretty
good condition, from what I understand. (Okay, is anyone really surprised
by this? :) Oddly enough, I've met the guy who's selling it to me, on on
of the annual Right Coast Rides several years ago. He was asking me, of
all things, what caused the markings on his wife's CB-1's rear body work,
which I explained to him was the fault of bungie cords rubbing as the bike
vibrated. So, now years later, I'm buying the bike he was referring to.
Who'da thunk?

Next, The Bad: My current bike's not fixed yet. Galen has swapped out the
newer motor for my dead one, and we'll leave the diagnosis of the old one
for a winter project. He had some motor mounts welded for this other
motor, so we'll see how it goes. This leads us to...

The Ugly: When Galen took my exhaust off, it crumbled. I guess they don't
make rust flavored welds like they used to. Oy. So, a new Kerker is on the
way, hopefully to arrive this week. I think it will probably last until
mid-September before *this* one rusts. I've got it made!

...

Dane had surgery for his separated shoulder, and is recovering nicely. We
had a little party to move his stuff into my apartment (everyone knew he
was the future roommate, right?) and that made him horribly sore, even
though he carried maybe two or three things in one hand. He won't be
racing this weekend, so I guess I'll borrow the FZR again, if my bike's
not ready. I hope he's ready to ride by the last weekend of the season,
but... well, we'll see.

...

Well, the bike wasn't ready.

Ann crashed and ripped her motor apart.

And I don't remember anything else about that weekend.
