Benefit Weekend - July 28-29, 2001
What a tiring weekend, but exhilarating nonetheless.
Again, not much of a race report: I bailed on my race (MWSM again),
although I practiced, because we spent the entire weekend organizing the
Benefit Race & Auction. Rob and Ann showed up, as did Rick Currier, which
was just totally amazing. I didn't corner work, and I didn't change
anything about my riding, I just kinda ran around and Did Stuff, and got
amazingly sunburned.
After this weekend, I know a bunch more racers than I ever knew before. I
think I met almost everyone in person, while helping register people for
the foot and bicycle races, taking donations, selling temporary tattoos,
or handling auction stuff. I hope I remember everyone's names, or that if
I don't, people forgive me.
The Benefit Committee people were great. JP Laglenne, Joe Melchionda, Ava
Sanel, and especially Paul Luevano really kicked butt all weekend long. BJ
Worsham also went some seriously extra distance for us, as did everyone
who contributed prizes and auction items, and those who donated their time
and money. I was just amazed at how everyone at the track pulled together
to help out the people who were injured last weekend. I love LRRS.
We raised over $10,000 for Rob Dages and Rick Currier this weekend alone.
How effing cool is THAT?!?!?
